WCO PRESIDENT HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN URBANIZATION

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of the World Citizens Organization (WCO) emphasized that sustainable development and green space should be considered in new urbanization.

Dr. Young Hoon Kwaak, who is also the president of the Global Association of the Silk Road (SRGA), said urban population in Asia is 2.1 billion people i.e. 48 percent of Asia population.

He made the remarks during an international economic conference in Tehran.
Kwaak added that it would reach to 3.2 billion people i.e. 62 percent of Asia population.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said 58.3 million of Iranian people lived in cities in 2015, which accounts for 73 percent of Iran’s population.

It will reach 82 percent by 2045 i.e. 83 percent of total population that would be 98.9 million.

Noting that economic development should consider environment, education, energy, engineering, and ethics, he added time is changing and history is entering a new era.

The international conference, featuring urban economy, kicked off at Imam Sadiq University in the Iranian capital on May 19.
A large number of leading domestic and foreign scientific and economic figures attended the event.

“Economy of smart city”, “economy of urban tourism”, “economy of urban infrastructures”, “economic culture of city and citizenship education”, and “urban dilemmas, the environment, and air pollution,” were among the major topics discussed at the event.
